Fall in Chicago can be very pleasant as temperature highs can still reach 62°F (17°C). Temperatures can then drop to 50°F (10°C) - so bringing jackets and sweaters is a must. The Lake Michigan water has now started to cool down again and measures 61°F (16°C).

Less of a crowd and still pleasant weather makes October a great time to visit Chicago. Sightseeing couldn’t be more enjoyable at any other time. But the Navy Pier and the Lincoln Park Zoo, for example, have reduced hours of operation. Movie lovers take note as October is the month of the Chicago Film Festival and runners (or spectators), get ready for the Chicago Marathon.
