Alaska Weather in December

Averages By Month

If you’re looking for a white Christmas, Alaska is definitely your best choice. Snow is highly likely all over Alaska. Expect freezing temperatures of -6°F during the day and -18°F overnight in the Arctic region of Alaska along with no daylight and tons of snow. The Interior region has more daylight but temperatures are also very chilly with lows around -18°F and “highs” of 2°F.

As a result of the cold, you can enjoy the artistic ice sculptures at Christmas in Ice all month long in North Pole. The Interior region is also your best choice for clear nights to appreciate the northern lights. The Arctic region as well as the Southern regions are very cloudy during winter. However the Southern regions are less cold with temperatures highs of 39°F and lows around 32°F. Never forget your umbrella when you visit the year round changeable weather at the coastal areas.
