Alaska Weather in April

Averages By Month

From April on you will find more daylight in Alaska than anywhere else in the United States. Days start out being 16 hours long and gain another hour of daylight each week. You will still be able to get a glimpse of the northern lights during the night as the midnight sun is yet to come.

Temperatures rise all over the country but at very different speeds. While all the way up north, temperatures do not rise higher than up to 10°F at day and -7°F at night. In the Interior area that is known for its cold winters but comparatively warm summers days can be 42°F warm and night temperatures only drop to 20°F.

Also, the precipitation rate is comparatively low during April. The mild weather conditions encourage animals to slowly leave their winter habitat so you might get the chance to see a moose or bear. In the more southern regions temperatures during the day can already climb to 50°F and more while nights are around 35°F warm. You will still find plenty of snow to ski in the mountains or go dog sledding in the interior parts of the country.
